EPUB Reader for Google Drive™ asks Google for the single book you picked in Open with, and for nothing else. It never lists your Drive, never opens the file next to it, and never writes to the book it read. The file you keep in Drive stays exactly as it was.
What arrives is a copy, and it lands in your browser's local storage on this machine. There is no account here and no server of ours in the picture at all.

Install EPUB Reader once from Google Workspace™ Marketplace, and from then on it waits in the menu. Right click the file, choose Open with, and pick EPUB Reader. Drive hands over that one book and it opens in a new tab. You do not download it first and you do not convert it to anything.
Drive stores the file and shows you its name, but there is no reader behind it: chapters, themes and your reading place are what this app adds. That is the whole gap it fills.
Only the ones you hand it through Open with. The permission it asks for covers files you opened with this app and nothing else, so the rest of your Drive stays invisible to it.
No. The book travels from Google to your own browser and stops there, in local storage on this machine. We collect nothing and there is nothing to log in to.
Once a book has landed, yes. Open the reader on a plane and your library is there, exactly where you left it. Fetching a new book from Drive is the one thing that needs a connection.
EPUB is what this app registers in Google Drive™. Drop a file onto the shelf yourself and the same reader also opens Kindle style MOBI and AZW3 books, FB2 plain or zipped, and plain text, Markdown or Word documents. PDF and comics are not supported.
